Mr. Cleveland studied at Somerville High School and was graduating in 1895.
in 1895 joined the office of Cram and Ferguson in Boston, beginning his career there as an office boy. During his early training Mr. Cram was impressed with the young man s ability, and sent him to Europe for special architectural study- In subsequent years he returned for many visits to the Gothic cathedrals and churches, and after being promoted successively to positions of higher responsibility in the office, in 1926 was taken into the firm of Cram and Ferguson as a full partner. He was well-known in professional circles in Boston.
Early in his career Mr. Cleveland was identified with the plan of the Baptistry of the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York, and later had much to do with the design of the East Liberty Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, St. James in New York, and St. Vincent's Church in Los Angeles.
He was elected a member of the Society of Architects in 1922, in 1946 was advanced to institute Fellowship, and during the latter year received the A. I. A. Gold Medal Award in Architecture.
