Educated schools of Cincinnati, 1850-1859, academic, Oakland, California, 1859-1862. Graduated from the United States Naval Academy, 1866, as midshipman.

Career

Promoted ensign March 12, 1868, master March 12, 1869, Lieutenant March 21, 1870, Lieutenant commander March 2, 1885, commander July 10, 1894, captain July 23, 1900. Rear admiral, and retired for physical disability, September 27, 1901.
