He finidhed the course of architectural study at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
He entered the office of Heins & LaFarge in New York where he was employed until 1895, later worked with other firms in the city. In 1904 Mr. Goodwillie opened his own office and carried on independent practice seven years, subsequently was associated with Frank E. Willis until 1921, in which year he joined William E. Moran in partnership.
Among the best known works of the firm of Goodwillie & Moran were a number of industrial plants and business offices, including the General Electric Plant at Cleveland, O., Globe Indemnity Insurance Office, Newark, N. Jā Wheatena Mills at Rahway, N. J., Manice Building in New York, and the Horton Ice Cream Plant, N. Y. Mr. Goodwillie also designed a number of fine residences in New York and New Jersey, notable examples of which are the Eshbaugh house and the Schieren residence at Montclair, N. J.
