During a period of twelve years Mr. Helme earned on his work alone, engaged in that time in designing Banking houses in Brooklyn, among which were the Williamsburgh Savings Bank; Dime Savings Bank; Nassau Trust Company, and the North Side Bank.
In 1912 he joined Harvey Corbett in partnership, and in 1923 following completion of the Bush Terminal Building in New York (of which they were architects) established an office in the building. Helme & Corbett were also architects of the Power & Light Co. Building at Allentown. During a later period, after William H. McMurray joined the firm, other important works were designed by the partners, notably; George Washington Masonic National Memorial, Arlington, Va.; Horace Bushnell Memorial Auditorium, Hartford, Conn.; Henry Stambaugh Memorial Auditorium, Youngstown, O.
