Career
Ryder played for Summerseat, Prescot Cables, Burnley (on trial), Bury, Torquay United, Rochdale, Ards, and Altrincham. He joined Portuguese Vale in November 1935. He scored two goals in a 2–2 draw with Blackpool at The Old Recreation Ground on 14 December, and also bagged goals in heavy defeats to Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United in February.
He lost his first team place after seriously injuring his right shinbone at a 3–0 defeat to Bradford Park Avenue at the Horsfall Stadium on 21 March.
He had played 17 Second Division games in the 1935-1936 season, as the "Valiants" were relegated. He made six Third Division North appearances in the 1936-1937 season, and left on a free transfer in April 1937.
