Background

Lackland, Frank Dorwin was born on September 13, 1884 in Farquier County, Virginia, United States. Son of Samuel and Katharine (Dorwin) Lackland.

Education

Educated Air Service Engineering School, Dayton, O., 1920-1921, Air Corps Tactical School, Maxwell Field, Alabama, 1928-1929, Command and General staff schedul, Fort Leavenworth, 1929-1931. Unmarried. Enlisted in National Guard, District of Columbia, March 1903, and served in all grades to captain up to February 1911. Second in command Lieutenant Infantry, United States Army, February 11, 1911.

Transferred to Air Service, 1920, advanced through the grades to brigadier general, wing commander, December 1939. Served as major Signal Corps in World War.
