Ward, Frank Edwin was born on October 7, 1872 in Wysox, Bradford County, Pennsylvania, United States. Son of Cyrenus Osborne and Stella Aurelia (Owen) Ward.

High School, Washington, District of Columbia, 1888-1891. New York College of Music (piano and theory), 1896. Scharwenka Conservatory of Music (organ), 1896-1897.

Columbia University Department of Music, 1898-1903, fellow in music, 1902-1903.

Career

Organist and choirmaster, Columbia University, 1902-1913, Temple Israel, New York, since 1902, Church of Holy Trinity, since 1906, retired 1946. Associate in music, Columbia, 1909-1919. Teacher harmony and counterpoint, Trinity School of Church Music, 1915-1918.

Established his own school for piano, organ and theory, 1919. Head of Theory Department Guilmant Organ School, 1937-1942.
