During period 1878-1901 went on 3 total solar eclipse expeditions and observed visually and photographically many phenomena, such as the reversing layer, corona and prominence spectra. Photographed transit of Venus, at Providence, Rhode Island, December 6, 1882. Accomplished important work in relation to Halley’s comet which appeared in 1909, 1910.
Has made numerous observations of comets, and computations and observations of variable stars of different types to determine their periods and forms of their light curves.
