Began as clerk in office of Peck, Stow & Wilcox Company, Kensington Factory, Berlin, 1880, manager of plant, 1887-1890. Treasurer Berlin Iron Bridge Company, 1890-1903. President Fidelity Trust Company, Hartford, 1905-1923.

Vice Chairman of the Board United States Security Trust Company, since 1923. President J. O. Smith Manufacturing Company. Director Phoenix Mutual Life Insurance Company, Peck, Stow & Wilcox Company, American Hosiery Company Major commanding 1st Company Governor’s Foot Guard, resigned, and now member honorary staff.
