The first poem from this collection that I read, "Teaching Computers to Write Poetry, " is a knock-out! And the rest were no disappointments. Part of Franz Baskett's genius lies in revealing that which is most human through elements that are inert and unlike us. To merely call this personification understates the effect. Baskett re-creates the bumblebee as erotic, a washing machine as survival instinct, and white bass fishing as Socratic dialogue. This book is surprising and sly, poems to be read over and over for their layers of meaning.
