Wilson previously served in a number of positions for the British government, including as Deputy Consul General in São Paulo Paulo and Ambassador to Turkmenistan. He was High Commissioner to the Seychelles before his appointment as Ambassador to Albania in 2006. He also held several positions at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office in London, including in the Western European Department, Eastern Department, the Diplomatic Service Overseas Inspectorate and the Overseas Territories Department.
Wilson is married with two children.
