Fred was graduated in Architecture at Cornell University in 1886.
Fred received practical training while employed as a draftsman for a few years with the New York firm of Babb, Cook 6 Willard. Later Mr. Benedict joined the office of York & Sawyer, and for more than three decades continued his association with the firm. Among the many outstanding works built under his supervision should be mentioned the following: Brooklyn Trust Company Building, 1915; New York Athletic Club; First National Bank and Trust Company of Utica, New York; American Post Office at South Orange. Also a number of college buildings at Rutgers, Vassar and the University of Michigan.
