Leaving Chicago Mr. Hamilton settled in Kansas City, and except for the period between 1911 and 1920 when he held the office of Superintendent of Public Buildings, practiced independently for nearly thirty years. His major works were business and commercial structures built in Chicago, Kansas City and neighboring cities. Retiring in 1920, he continued to live in Kansas City until about 1925 when he left for an extended visit in California. He died in Los Angeles, at the age of eighty-four.
He became a Fellow of American Institute of Architects in 1889.
