Fred Moody was born on March 14, 1949 in Missoula, United States, in the family of Fred R. and Anna (McGee) Moody.
In 1972 Fred received B.A. at Fairhaven College, and then in 1975 he got A.M.L.S. at University of Michigan.
The former managing editor of Seattle Weekly, his journalism has appeared in numerous publications, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. His previous books include I Sing the Body Electronic and The Visionary Position.
In the first of these volumes, Fighting Chance: An NFL Season with the Seattle Seahawks, Moody covers virtually every aspect of the Seahawks’ 1988 season, from contract negotiations and new ownership, to injuries, poor refereeing, and odd occurrences on the field.
Moody’s next effort, I Sing the Body Electronic: A Year with Microsoft on the Multimedia Frontier, took him to the Redmond, Washington, headquarters of the Microsoft Corporation, where he observed a team of software designers for one year.
Fred describes his beliefs as Pataphysics.
Quotations: I write nonfiction rather than fiction for two reasons: I lack the imagination to be a great or even a decent novelist; and I like to augment reality by employing the techniques of fiction in the telling of nonfictional stories. I believe that it is at least as important for the writer to entertain as to inform. I have the heart and soul of a novelist, but the mind and imagination, alas, of a journalist.
On April 1, 1974, Fred married an adoption counselor Anne Moehring, and they have three children: Erin, Caitlin, and Jocelyn.
