O'Shea, a member of the 1909 Brunswick VFA premiership team, joined Essendon in 1910 and was on the wing when they won the 1911 VFL Grand Final. He had injured his knee in the first quarter and had to be carried off but returned late in the game and despite being unable to walk, was assigned to the goalsquare and booted the winner with his only kick.
