Corbet was educated at Wimbledon County School and University College, London.

She became a teacher, lecturer and a barrister. Corbet became active in the Labour movement, serving as secretary of the Balham and Tooting Independent Labour Party. She served as a councillor on the London County Council 1935-1965 and acted as Chief Whip to the Labour group there, until deposed by Bill Fiske in 1960.
She contested Lewisham East at the 1935 general election, without success.
She became a magistrate in 1940. She retired in February 1974.

At the 1945 election, Corbet was elected Member of Parliament for Camberwell North West, moving to Peckham in 1950.
