Career
Joined East Lancashire Regiment 1886. Indian Staff Corps, 1888. Served in Hazara Expedition, 1891 (medal and clasp).
Isazai Expedition, 1892. Commanded the Gurkha Scouts (despatches twice, brev. of Major and Companion of the Distinguished Service Order, medal with two clasps), Tirah Expedition, 1897-1898. Waziristan, 1901 - 2 (despatches, clasp).
Bazar Valley, 1908 (despatches, medal and clasp). Promoted Captain, 1897. Brevet Major 1898; Major, 1904.
