Maria"s grandfather was General Frederick Frelinghuysen (1753–1804). Cornell was a classics scholar, partly translating Tacitus in 1825 from Carey"s Philadelphia Latin edition of 1808. 1804 November 16, Frederick was born at Allen-town, New Jersey.

1829, missionary at Stuyvesant for three months. 1829-1831, at Columbiaville.

1833–1836, Montville. 1836–1856, pastor of Manhattan Reformed Dutch Church, New York City. 1866 he received the degree of Doctor of Divinity from Union College.
He died at home in somerset, New jersey on August 7, 1875.
