He studied at Washington University's School of Architecture.
During his youth migrated to America. Arriving later in St. Louis, he began architectural training in the office of Walsh & Jugenfeld.
In 1884 the firm of Widman & Walsh opened an office in St. Louis, and as architects for the Anheuser-Busch Company designed manufacturing plants which were built over a period of years (1884-1918) in St. Louis, Chicago and other large cities in the country. Later Mr. Widman designed the Church of the Good Shepherd in St. Louis and other public buildings in a number of cities. During his latter years he participated in many philanthropic works.
