Career
He perfected new techniques in orthopedics such as bone grafts and fusions. In 1929 he founded the International Society of Orthopedic Surgery. His writings include many books on procedures in orthopedic surgery and an autobiography (1943). He was interested in mental rehabilitation as well as orthopedic surgery.
