Background
KARN, Frederick James was born on August 29, 1862 in Leatherhead, Surrey, the 9th of ten children of James Karn (c. 1806 - 1865) and Elizabeth Karn neé Adcock (1823-1893). On 9 September 1885, he married Laura Marion Caddel (1860-1920) at St. Jude, East Brixton, Surrey and there were seven children from the marriage, the first two being born in Cobham, Surrey and the other five in Hampstead, Middlesex, where the family settled. His wife died on 27 December 1920, aged 60 and was buried at Hampstead Cemetery, where a stone marks her grave. Frederick James Karn died on 2 December 1940 at Cranleigh, Surrey and was buried in the village on 5 December 1940.
