Education
Curtis studied at the University of Sydney, where he completed the combined Bachelor of Economics and Bachelor of Laws. The five-year, full-time program was jointly offered by the university's Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences and its Law School, pairing economic training with a professional legal qualification.
The University of Sydney was founded by an act of the New South Wales Parliament in 1850 and opened in 1852. Its founding principles of religious tolerance and admission on academic merit were new ideas for universities in the mid-nineteenth century, and they shaped its character as a secular public institution.
The Law School's Bachelor of Laws is accredited by the Legal Profession Admission Board of New South Wales, so the degree satisfies the academic requirement for admission as a lawyer in that state. This accreditation connects the degree to the admission to practice that Curtis obtained in 1983.
