Fred Junior. studied at Pennsylvania State University and later at Indiana University, interrupted by a stint in the United States Navy where he played trombone in the Navy Band.

Later, he toured with Woody Herman and other Jazz greats before accepting a stint in the Jackie Gleason Show. Later, Fred Junior. went on to tour with the Broadway musical Hair where he served as musical director in London, Copenhagen, Montreal and Washington District of Columbia. In the 1980s, Fred Waring Junior. assumed the position of Chief Executive Officer for his father"s music publishing house, Shawnee Press and undertook a number of steps which modernized the company, including a broader catalogue of publications and the modernization of several departments.
