Fritsis ROKPELNIS, Latvia poet and journalist. Chief, Board of Art Affairs, Latvia Minister of Culture, since 1944; board member, Latvia Union of Writers, since 1958. two Order of Red Banner of Labor; Badge of Honor; medals; Stalin Prize, 1950. Member, Communist Party, since 1943.


ROKPELNIS, Fritsis was born in 1909 in Latvia.


Graduated Riga University.


1929-1938 Head, Rainis Museum. 1939-1941 Editor, Latvia paper “Darbs”, and Editor, Script Department, Riga Film Studios. Director of Literature, State Children’s and Youth Theater.

In 1930's joined Latvia left-wing movement and wrote illegal works. During World War II in USSR. At one time Secretary, Latvia Union of Writers.


Member, Communist Party, since 1943.
