Afterwards pupil to Mr. Wentworth Shields and Sir John Fowler. Employed on a great many railway works in England and abroad.
Went through the FrancoGerman War, 1870-1871, administering a portion of the conquered territory for the German Government. Became a naturalised Englishman, 1876, and has devoted himself specially to the development of mono-rail lines since 1885. Invented practically the mono-rail, now known as the High-Speed Mono-Rail System, and obtained two Acts of Parliament for the construction of the Manchester and Liverpool Electric Express Railway in 1901 and 1902, which is to be worked at an average speed of 110 miles an hour.
Has published a number of pamphlets and lectures in English, French, and German on high-speed mono-rails, the principal one published in 1893, entitled Lightning Express Railway Service, 120 to 150 Miles an Hour.
