Fujisawa Rikitaro was born in 1861.
He studied physics at Tokyo University. Went over to England and Germany for further study in 1883.
Returning to Japan in 1887, he was appointed professor at his alma mater. He was the first Japanese mathematician to lecture on functions in Japan. Noted as the prime mover in the movement to set up an agelimitsystem for university professors. Left many books on mathematics.
