In 1615, at the order of Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa, he dug out of the debris of the burned castle in Osaka of the Toyotomis fragments of treasured ceramic utensils of the Toyotomis and put them together into their original shapes with lacquer with extraordinary skill. This method of reviving broken ceramics was handed down to later generations.
