He was a man of erudition and a renowned composer of Chinese and waka poems as well as prose. During the reign of Emperor Goreizei (1045-68), he was appointed head of Daigaku (college) and Monjo Hakase (senior Secretary in charge of Literary Affairs). Author of Honcho Monzui, a collection of noted proses in Japan.
