He is appointed Minister of the Right in 969, then Minister of the Left. Was called Awata-no-Sadaijin or Madenokoji-no-Sadaijin. Won the confidence of Emperor Reizei because of his conscientious work in his posts. He is said to have attended the Court even on stormy days, wearing straw hat and coat. When the Imperial Palace was destroyed by fire in 960, he supervised the reconstruction work.

He became the son-in-law of his uncle, Ariyori Fujiwara.
