Fujiwara no Kadoko was born in 1301. Daughter of Kimikado Ano, she became a daughter-inlaw of Kintaka Toin before she became a Court lady attending Emperor Godaigo in 1319.
She followed the Emperor when he was exiled to the Oki Island in 1332. Was accorded the treatment as Sangu, or empress, in 1335. Though a woman of ability and beauty, she was vulnerable to bribery. Because of her intercessions, Emperor Godaigo’s rewards and punishments were said to have been unfair, with the result that the restoration of the Imperial regime in the Kemmu Era was short-lived. Upon Emperor Gomurakami ascending the Throne, she became empress dowager. She was conferred the title of Shin-Taiken-Mon-in in 1351.
Mother of Emperor Gomurakami, Prince Tsunenaga and Prince Shigenaga.
