藤原薬子
Fujiwara Kusuko was born in Japan.
After Emperor Heizei ascended the Throne, she became a Court lady to attend on the emperor. Much favored by the emperor, she wielded great power in the Court. After Emperor Heizei abdicated, Kusuko, in collusion with his elder brother, Nakanari Fujiwara, attempted to restrore the deposed emperor to the Throne and to become herself the empress consort. Emperor Saga, enraged, drove her out of the Court and she killed herself with poison. The incident was called the Kusuko-no-Ran (Affair of Kusuko).
She was married to Tadanushi Fujiwara and gave birth to three sons and two daughters.
