Fujiwara no Morokata was born in 1301. He was the son of Moronobu.
During the reign of Emperor Hanazono, he was appointed a Court Councillor. After the ascension of Emperor Godaigo to the Throne he was appointed Dainagon (Vice Minister). When Emperor Godaigo attempted to overthrow the Kamakura Sho-gunate, Morokata actea as his chief adviser. The plot becoming known to the Shogunate in 1324, Morokata confined himself at Kitayama.
When the Shogunate attempted to exile the emperor, Morokata, together with Fujifusa Fujiwara, took the emperor to Sanjo-Gawara on the Kamo River, Kyoto, at night. At the order of the emperor, Morokata, posing as the emperor, rode in the Imperial palanquin and proceeded to the Enryakuji temple on Mt. Hiei and urged the priest-soldiers to fight the Shogunate forces. The priest-soldiers resisted the oncoming Shogunate troops and endeavored to make the temple the emperor's temporary abode. However, when a lot of wind raised the curtain of the palanquin, the priests knew that it was not the emperor who was in it and fled. Morosuke fled to Mt. Kasagi with Takasuke Fujiwara.
After Mt. Kasagi fell, he fled with the emperor, together with Fujifusa and Tomoyuki Minamoto. Morosuke was captured and became a priest, assuming the name of Sotei. The following year, he was exiled to Shimo-osa (Chiba Prefecture), where he was confined at the home of Sadatane Chiba. Was conferred the title of Dajo Daijin (Prime Minister) posthumously.
His house was called Kazan-in.
