Originally a servant of Michinori Fujiwara, he won his mas- ter's confidence f o r his cleverness. In the civil war of Heiji (1159), he fled from Kyoto, following Michinori. After Michinori died, he became a priest and assumed the Buddhist name of Saik. Served ex-Emperor Goshirakawa and was greatly favored. When his son Morotaka was ac- cused by priests of the Enryakuji Temple and punished, he had Chief Priest Myoun of the temple exiled to Izu by order of the ex-emperor. Then, at a secret order of the ex-em- peror, he plotted with Narichika Fujiwara, Yasuyori Taira and Priest Shunkan to overthrow the rule of the Taira Clan. The secret plot leaked and he was captur- ed. Confronted by Kiyomori, head of the Tairas, he denounced him vehemently. In anger, Kiyomori had Moromitsu beheaded and had his head publicly displayed.
