Fukushima Masabe-e was born in Edo about 1870.
When young, Fukushima Masabe-e went to Owari (Aichi Prefecture) and became a disciple of Kawamoto, a celebrated ceramist.
After returning to Edo, Fukushima Masabe-e began making porcelain ware under the guidance of his master. He found clay suited for porcelain on Mt. Amagi (Shizuoka Prefecture). His Minowa Kilns are supposed to be the first to turn out Edo porcelain.
