Fumiko Yonekawa studied the koto from her elder sister Teruhisa Yonekawa and the samisen from Ume Tanaka and became skilled in playing classical themes on the koto and folk songs on the samisen.
Fumiko Yonekawa was the head of the Ikuta school of koto players and director of Sochokai and of Sankyoku associations.
