Funatsu Denjibe was born in Kozuke Province (Gumma Prefecture) in 1833. He was a farmer’s son. Died in 1898.

Funatsu Denjibe was born in Kozuke Province (Gumma Prefecture) in 1833. He was a farmer’s son. Died in 1898.
Toward the end of the Tokugawa Shogunate, Funatsu Denjibe worked for the affore-station of Mt. Akagi with a view to preserving headwaters and preventing floods. In 1877, joined the staff of the Home Ministry and contributed much to the establishment of the Agricultural School at Koraaba in Tokyo, which later was incorporated into Tokyo University. Was appointed a technician attached to the Agricultural Experimental Station ot the Agriculture and Commerce School.
