Furuyama Moroshige was born in Edo about 1680.
A disciple of Moronobu Hishikawa, he inherited his master's style.
His most active period was from 1678 until 1698. Furuyama Moroshige was especially skilled in painting beautiful women. His representative work is Koshoku Edo Murasaki,in five volumes. Shika-no-Makifude, in five volumes, is a satirical work representing the customs and manners of his time. Offended by this series of pictures, the Shogunate prohibited his living in Edo for a period.
