Career
The originator of the family is Prince Yoshihito, first son of Emperor Suko (North Dynasty). Although he was in the position to succeed his father on the Throne, Takauji Ashikaga made Prince Iyahito, the younger brother of Emperor Suko, ascend the Throne. This was Emperor Gokogon. His grandfather, Emperor Kogon, left a will that in case Prince Yoshihito should ascend the Throne, he should inherit the territory of Fushimi from Emperor Suko. If not, the territory should belong to the Court. In case of the descendants of Emperors Suko or Gokogon accede to the Throne, it should be regarded as Prince Yoshihito’s possession. Because Emperor Gokogon was succeeded by his son. Emperor Goenyu, and by his grandson, Emperor Gokomatsu, the territory in question belonged to Prince Yoshihito. He built his mansion there and called it Fushimidono, which became the name of ms family. His family lasted five hundred years. After the Meiji Restoration of 1868, the houses of Nashimoto, Yamashina, Kanin, Kuni, Kitashirakawa, Kava, Takeda, etc. branched out of this house.
