The son of Takamimusubi-no-kami, he controlled ceremonies. The Imbes were supposed to have descended from this god.
Futodama served the Sun Goddess (Amaterasu Cmikami) as her master of ceremonies. When the offspring of the Sun Goddess descended to Japanese soil, he accompanied them. This deity’s descendants spread over Yamato, Awa, Sanuki, Kii, Izumo and other provinces of western Japan and many of them engaged in making utensils of Shinto rituals. Dedicated to him are the Futodama-no-Mikoto Shrine in Nara and the Awa Shrine in Chiba Prefecture. Hironari Imbe, a scholar on the ancient Japanese language, was a descendant of this deity.
