After 1917 October Revol rector, Kazan’ University. 1921-1942 professor, Leningrad Institute of Postgraduate Medical Training and 1st and 2nd Leningrad Medical Institute. 1941-1942 continued work in Leningrad during blockade.
Discovered specific precipitins which led to a method of determining blood groups in forensic medical (Chistovich-Uhlenhut reaction). Did research on blood diseases. 1929 proposed new classification of diseases of hematogenic system.
Described specific pathology of chemical weapons and inflammatory lesions caused by components of tubercular mycobacteria. Wrote 62 works on pathological anatomy and hematology.
