Worked as a farmer and fisherman. Learned Russian epics from grandfather and uncle. At turn of century the epics were written down by O. M. Dobrolyubov but the manuscripts were subsequently destroyed.
1928 the members of an expedition following the trail of Rybnikov and Gil’ferding (V. M. Sokolov, South. P. Borodin, East. G. Borodina-Morozova, Yu. A. Smarin. V. I. Chichcrov and V. 1. Yakovleva) recorded 19 epic texts.
Other epics (22 themes), fairy-tales, folk-poems and religious verses were written down by folklorists from Petrozavodsk, Leningrad and Moscow.
