1914-1917 various staff and command posts in Russian Army, leading to command of 132nd Infantry Division. From March 1918 in Red Army. 1918 chief of staff, Pskov Area.
Commander, Pctrograd Division. Mustering inspector and military commander, Petrograd Area. Chief of staff, Northern Front.
From September 1918 chief, Field Staff of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic Commander in Chief. June 1919 dismissed from this post and arrested along with Commander in Chief 1. I. Vatsctis in connection with failures on the Southern Front.
From September 1919 professor, Red Army Military Academy. 1921-1923 member and military representative, RussianUkr-Bcl Commission for Establishing the State Border with Poland. 1924-1925 chairman, Soviet Commission for Establishing the State Border with Finland.
Consultant for the establishment of borders with Rumania, Iran and other states. Wrote numerous works on military geography, history of the Civil War and general staff sendee.
