1887—1891 taught deaf children at Vatter Institute, Frankfurt-on-Main. 1892 went to Russia after obtaining diploma as teacher of deaf-mutes. 1893-1896 private tutor to a deaf boy.
1896 opened a school for the deaf and ran speech correction courses in Moscow. 1899—1928 director, ArnoldTret’yakov College for the Deaf, Moscow. 1915 co-founded first Russian kindergarten for deaf-mute children.
1925-1948 professor and head, Chair of Surdopedag and Logopedics, Defectological Department, Pedagogical Faculty, 2nd Moscow LIniv. Honorary member, All-Union Social of Deaf-Mutes. Organized and read papers at conferences on various aspects of defectology.
Organized lip-reading courses for adults and helped to develop system of educational for deaf-mutes. Trained numerous specialists and co-founded present system of advanced training in defectology. Schools for deaf mutes in Arkhangel’sk, Kaluga, Tambov and Khar’kov now bear his name.
Wrote over 50 works.
