Dibo received a Bachelor of Science degree from Eotvos Loránd University in 1975. Two years later he was given a Master of Science degree, and a Doctor of Philosophy in 1982 from the same university.
Dibo began his career as a research fellow at Eotvos Lorand University in 1977 and held it for three years. In 1987, he took a position of an instructor at that university, where he worked until 1989. A year later Gabor became an assistant professor at Eotvos Lorand University.
Since 1998 he has been an associate professor at this university. Dibo worked as a visiting scientist at the City of Hope National Medical Center from 1989 to 1990 and at Osaka University in 1996.
Dibo was a secretary at Hungarian-Japanese Friendship Society in Budapest from 1988 to 1993 and a research associate at Hungarian Academy of Sciences in 1980-1985. He was a member of Protein Society, European Peptide Society, American Peptide Society and Japanese Peptide Society.
On June 21, 1977 Gabor Dibo married Maria Laton. They have 2 children.
