On April 18, 2008 Martínez lost his first fight to top Welterweight Prospect, Mexican Saul Alvarez. On May 29, 2010 Martínez Fought one of the best Welterweights Jesus Soto Karass, the fight was ruled a Number Contest after an unintentional headbutt.
