He wrote commentaries on the Spring and Autumn Annals and Mencius. He is also the author of the earliest commentary to the Annals of Lü Buwei. Baxter & Sagart (2014: 265) take the following remarks from his commentary on the Annals of Lü Buwei as evidence of final *-r in the word 殷.
今兖州人謂殷氏皆曰衣
Nowadays the people of Yǎnzhōu 兖州 all pronounce the family name 殷 Yīn as 衣 Yī ”.
