Chau, Gar-Yang was born on September 8, 1958 in Taipei, Taiwan. Son of Shieu-Nam Chau and Hwei-Fen Chen.

Education

Doctor of Medicine, National Taiwan University, Taipei, 1984. Master in Public Health, Columbia University, New York City, 1989.

Career

Chief resident in general surgery Taipei Veterans General Hospital, Taiwan, 1989—1990, attending surgeon Taiwan, since 1990. Research associate Pittsburgh University, 1995—1996. Associate professor National Yang-Ming University, Taipei, Taiwan, since 1998.

Consultant National Health Institute, Taipei, Taiwan, since 1999.

Achievements

  • Achievements include design of Intraportal chemotherapy for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Research in the results of hepatic resection for treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. Research in the mechanism of metastasis of hepatocellular carcinoma.

    Experience in more than 800 liver resections with a particular reputation for dealing with tumors orginating from the cirrhotic liver. Currently heads program taking on 200 liver resections annually.

Member of Taiwan Surgical Association, International Association of Surgeons and Gastroenterologists.
