Admitted to bar, 1865. City solicitor Trenton, 1866-1870, 1873-1876. Prosecutor of pleas Mercer County, New Jersey, 1870-1873.

Reporter Supreme Court of the New Jersey, 1873. Mayor of Trenton, 1881-1884. Later president of the board public works.

Tendered seat on Supreme Court bench, 1900, but declined. Judge Court of Errors and Appeals, New Jersey, 1901-1907, 1907-1913.
