Career
He played college baseball at Texas Technical University and was All-Region in 1976 and All-American in 1977. He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the 22nd round of the 1977 Major League Baseball Amateur Draft. Ashby served as assistant coach at Texas Technical from 1982 to 1983, before serving as head coach.
He was elected into the Texas Technical Athletic Hall of Honor in 1999.
