Career
After many trials from clubs in England such as Manchester City he signed a professional contract for Longford Town in the League of Ireland in early 2002 under the then manager Martin Lawlor. That summer he was called into the Republic of Ireland u17 squad for a youth international held in the Czechoslovakian Republic where he was capped against Hungary. Having impressed manager Brian Kerr he was drafted into the next squad for the European Championship qualifiers but a broken thumb in training forced him to withdraw from the squad.
Gary was heavily linked with a move to Burnley during 2002, but the two clubs could not come to an agreement, so the interest was ended.
In January 2005 Gary represented the international colleges team (CFAI) in an international tournament in Tarragona, Spain. In July of the same year he came on as an 84th-minute substitute in the League Cup semi final against Cork City at Turners Cross and saved an injury time John O"Flynn penalty.
Due to complications with his groin he was forced to retire in 2006. He currently lives in Rome, Italy, and works as a personal trainer.
